Policies and Procedures

The University of Minnesota has many policies pertaining to academic work and student life on campus. Students at the University of Minnesota is responsible for complying with these policies, the following is a summary of relevant policies.

Professional Licensure

Examinations for state licensure may be taken after all program requirements have been completed and the degree awarded. Application and Registration to become licensed as an RN is a two-part process that is described by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. You will need to apply to the Board of Nursing in the State/Territory where you are seeking licensure and register with Pearson VUE (national testing company).

About the BSN Program

The BSN program is for high-ability, achievement-oriented students and provides a challenging learning environment with innovative approaches to faculty-student relationships and scholarly learning experiences. Nursing courses may include active learning strategies, lectures, online activities, seminars, laboratories, simulation and practicum experiences. Students learn client care in a variety of settings that may include hospitals, clinics, homes, long-term care facilities, and other health care settings throughout the community.

Team Advising

BSN students are assigned to a primary Academic Advisor in the Office of Student and Career Advancement Services (OSCAS). To learn who your Advisor is, navigate to “My Advisor(s)” in the “Academics” tab in MyU. Students are encouraged to get to know their primary Advisor, but are not limited to their assigned Advisor’s availability and can meet with anyone on the BSN Advising team.
