PhD Program Goals

The primary goal of the Nursing PhD Program at the University of Minnesota is to prepare independent researchers to develop new knowledge to advance nursing science and improve human health and health care. The Graduate Faculty supports the following core principles in the design and implementation of the School of Nursing’s PhD Program.

Mission

Introduction

The School of Nursing (SoN) PhD Handbook is a compilation of information and policies specific to the School of Nursing PhD program. It is updated annually by the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) and Plan Level Coordinator. This handbook is designed to provide SoN PhD students and faculty with a readily available source of information about their programs, procedures and graduate student resources.

Compliance

As a School of Nursing and health sciences student at the University of Minnesota, you are required to complete all the necessary compliance requirements. There are a variety of items that students must keep up to date and submit to remain compliant.

Course Evaluation & Petitions

The Course Equivalency Petition form (PDF) is for prospective, admitted, and current pre-licensure (BSN and MN), PhD, and Certificate program students who would like an exemption from, or substitute for, a nursing prerequisite or required course based upon previous coursework and/or experience. A separate form must be used for each course requirement you want evaluated.
